About Tropicamet® Eye Drops

Rating of sales:

Tropicamet® solution is manufactured by Sun Pharmaceuticals. The active compound of eye drops id Tropicamide, an anticholinergic (or antimuscarinic) and topical mydriatic agent, used to aid eye examinations.

- dilating the pupil (mydriasis) to perform fundoscopy (or ophthalmoscopy) – examination of the fundus of the eye and other structures like retina, optic disc, macula and fovea;

- relaxing the muscles in the eye (cycloplegia), which aids testing the vision (cycloplegic refraction).;

- dilating the pupil or relaxing the eye before or after eye surgery.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Tropicamide works by relaxing the muscles of the eye to cause the pupil to dilate or widen (mydriasis). It blocks muscarinic receptors in the muscles of the eye, responsible for controlling the size of the pupil and the shape of the lens. By inhibiting these receptors, Tropicamide dilates the pupil (mydriasis), making it easier to perform fundoscopy. Tropicamide also temporarily paralyzes the muscles that help the eye focus (cycloplegia).
