Description
Omeflox® Eye and Ear Drops are manufactured by DCI Pharmaceuticals. The active ingredient comprised in drops is Ofloxacin, a 2nd generation antibiotic from the Fluoroquinolone (or Quinolone) family with a broad-spectrum activity.
Indications:
- bacterial eye infections (conjunctivitis, mucopurulent conjunctivitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, and blepharitis);
- bacterial ear infections (otitis externa, chronic suppurative otitis media with perforated tympanic membranes and acute otitis media in the presence of tympanostomy tubes).
Ofloxacin has been shown to be active against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Propionibacterium acnes, Enterobacter cloacae, Haemophilus influenzae, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marcescens.
Do not use Omeflox® Eye and Ear Drops to treat a viral or fungal infection in the eye or ear.
MOA (mechanism of action):
Ofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, active against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It inhibits DNA gyrase (type II topoisomerase, and topoisomerase IV) – an enzyme crucial for separation of the replicated DNA, thereby inhibiting bacterial cell division. This results in bacteria death and elimination of the infection.
