Vigamox ophthalmic solution comprises Moxifloxacin as an active ingredient – a fourth-generation antibiotic from the drug class Fluoroquinolones (or Quinolones). This drug possesses broad-spectrum activity against susceptible strains.

- bacterial conjunctivitis, caused by Moxifloxacin susceptible strains.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Moxifloxacin enters the bacterial cells and inhibits a bacterial enzyme called DNA-gyrase. This enzyme is involved in replicating and repairing the genetic material (DNA) of the bacteria. If this enzyme doesn't work, the bacteria cannot reproduce or repair themselves and this kills the bacteria.

Moxifloxacin is effective against gram-positive bacteria (Corynebacterium species, Streptococcus viridans Group), gram-negative bacteria (Enterobacter cloacae, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella oxytoca, Moraxella catarrhalis, Serratia marcescens), anaerobic microorganisms (Proprionibacterium acnes) etc.

The recommended dose is 1 drop into the treated eye(s) 3 times a day.

Continue using drops for 5 days. After the infection improves, instill drops for a further 2-3 days.

If no improvement is observed within 5 days of initiating therapy, the diagnosis or treatment should be redetermined.

The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the disorder.

Moxifloxacin solution is not for injection.

Vigamox eye drops may cause your vision to blur temporarily after you have applied them into your eye. Do not drive or operate machinery until this has worn off.

Avoid contaminating the applicator tip with eye, fingers or another source.
